In the Winter 2010 issue of Word & Deed Magazine we introduced you to the Ekhukanyeni Old Age Home construction project. It is with many thanks that we report to you how this project has been blessed over the last few months.

Progress
The project is now over 50% complete! Both the perimeter fence and the foundation are finished and the construction of new bathrooms has also begun

![]() ![]() Challenges
Heavy rains fell during the first two weeks of construction, which led to an excessive amount of time spent clearing the ground around the construction site. Excavations also filled up with water, which delayed the pouring of the concrete foundation. The construction work led to gaps in the perimeter and some of the residents suffering from mental illness managed to leave the premises unsupervised. Thankfully, all the residents are now safe. The completion of the perimeter fence will ensure that all residents will be well looked after.

Blessings
Our partners report that "the work to date ... has already brought a massive difference in the everyday life of the residents [at Ekhukanyeni]. Some of the residents look forward to seeing the construction team and supervisors on site everyday and a lot of smiles and greetings are not out of the ordinary each day on site." Anna Ntuli, initiator and nurturer of this project, and the staff are looking forward to using these new facilities, which will ease the care of the frail residents at the Old Age Home.
In addition to the construction work that is being accomplished, each Monday and Friday morning a local pastor opens the day with Bible study and prayer. Both the staff at Ekhukanyeni and the construction team have demonstrated that they are excited about what they hear during these times of worship.
We are thankful to hear of God’s blessing on this project and request your constant prayers for the work that is being done. Prayer is needed not only for the work of building a comfortable home for these elderly people, but also for the work that is being done in the hearts and lives of those who are exposed to the gospel through this project.
