Visiting the orphan care projects, the girls’ homes, and my general experience in Malawi last August all contributed to a newfound appreciation for Logos Ministries, an organization that trains church leaders. Their motto is a good indication of their guiding principal: “Getting back to biblical basics”. Immorality, abandonment, abuse, prostitution, selfishness, ignorance…these are some of the problems facing the church and communities...

Update: Manja Safe House Print E-mail

The road to the Manja Safe House is a bumpy one. The home that was chosen as the Safe House for children suspected of being "witches" had to be a rural site, because the of the nature of the project. Malawian society does not look kindly on children who are involved in witchcraft. Some methods of punishment include stoning, beating, starving and burning alive. For the same reason, nobody in the Manja community is aware that this house is being used as a haven for girls who have suffered abuse...

Update: Blantyre Girls' Home Print E-mail

img_0767It was with some uncertainty that I went to visit the Girls’ Home in Blantyre, Malawi this past August. It was difficult for me to know what to expect when visiting a home for girls taken out of prostitution. However, the fourteen smiling and singing girls that greeted us led me to believe that the lives they had previous led are far behind them, and will hopefully be an increasingly distant part of their past.
