The Adoration Christian Centre team is partnering with Miyamoto to assist 200 families with rebuilding their homes. Miyamoto (www.miyamotointernational.com) is a “global earthquake and structural engineering firm that provides critical services to help sustain industries and communities around the world”. The engineers have developed a methodology which allows homes, badly damaged by the 2010 earthquake, to be repaired using various reinforcement techniques (beams, block replacement, roof repair or replacement etc.). Word & Deed is supporting Adoration as they partner with Miyamoto to fix “yellow” houses (houses tagged as dwellings in need of repair). Many of these families are living in tents - fearful that their homes will collapse on top of them. Word & Deed is very concerned about dependency and so is Miyamoto. A significant portion of the work is being done by home owners themselves who are first trained to do the work by the engineers and then monitored as they carry them out. (See pictures below.) The Yellow Housing Project Re-building Committee, comprised of church leaders and Adoration Christian School staff, are directing this initiative. Through their efforts they are encouraging active community involvement and, as representatives of the church, they are also building important relationships within the community. Please pray that what began as a very necessary housing project will be used by the Lord for the spreading of the Gospel! The cost of the project is $400,000 (an average of $2,000 per home). Thank you to all of the churches, schools, businesses and individuals whose generous donations have made this project possible!
