Over $260,000 has been donated to Word & Deed for famine relief in East Africa to date.  Donations made in Canada between July 6 and September 16 are being matched by the Canadian government and allocated to a famine relief fund (see previous news release).

Word & Deed North America is supporting Woord en Daad (Word & Deed Holland) and her partners in bringing food, clean drinking water, water tanks, training for medical workers and basic shelters in refugee camps in Kenya and Ethiopia.  A very grave situation is only being made worse with the high level of danger accompanying any efforts to bring aid to famine victims in Somalia where there is no government.  Most Somali victims have no choice but to make the long trek into Ethiopia and Kenya with many, especially children, dying on the way.

Word & Deed would like to thank all churches and individuals for your donations to this important cause to date.  May the Lord bless all the efforts being taken to bring relief to the vicitms of the famine.  Pray as well that efforts to share the Gospel would be blessed to the eternal well being of countless precious individuals.  May many not only receive food for their bodies after a long and difficult trek, but also food and water for their souls.
