A new village for 40 families, who either lost their homes due to hurricane Stan or sustained major damages, is being built in San Jacinto, Guatemala. Once the village is ready, the 40 families will move there from El Cedro, a village perched high in the mountains where mudslides caused by the pounding rains of Hurricane Stan wreaked havoc.. The new village is approximately 2 hours drive from El Cedro.

Word & Deed is funding the project in partnership with Woord en Daad of the Netherlands, and the government of Guatemala. COEB, an emergency committee established by the Presbyterian church of Quetzaltenango in response to Hurricane Stan, is coordinating and overseeing the work.

Members of the 40 families are required to help out as they are able and are taking turns, 10 families at a time, in assisting with the work being done.
