In Malawi, children as young as four of five can be stoned, beaten, starved or burned alive for their real or suspected involvement with witchcraft. These horrible punishments can be inflicted by family and friends of the accused, or even by their church congregations. The Manja Safe House, a Word & Deed supported project, was established in October 2010 as a haven for girls who have been victims of this violent abuse. Since opening, eight girls (ages 10 -17) have taken refuge here. Through this project, these girls have a safe place to stay, Christian counseling and an introduction to biblical truth, as well as the opportunity to make reconciliation with their accusers. Please pray that wisdom would be given to Frank Phiri and Pastor Goliat (the counselors of the girls) and to Violet and Alinafe (the ladies who live with the girls and act as guardians).
