The Famine in the Horn of Africa

While Word & Deed doesn't have projects in the area affected by the famine, our sister organization, Word & Deed in The Netherlands, has several partners who do and we will be helping to fund their relief efforts.  Initially the work will focus on food, medical assistance and other basic necessities.  Simultaneously, they will be working with local partners to develop structural solutions to the problem of drought in East Africa.  The instability in Somalia due to her collapsed government, clan warfare and badly damaged infrastructure has both been a key cause of turning the drought of the last few years into a famine and a great impediment to bringing relief.  Pray that the Lord will bless the relief efforts for both body and soul.
